NOAC Goes to Guatemala!

The Ohio Academy of Audiology (OAA) recently sponsored two of its board members to partake in a mission trip to Zaccapa, Guatemala. The two board members, Dr. Erin Miller and Dr. Stacy Weisend, accompanied Au.D students from the Northeast Ohio Au.D Consortium (NOAC). The group collaborated with Hearts In Motion (H.I.M) to provide hearing healthcare to several different communities surrounding Zaccapa. The mission of Hearts In Motion is to provide care and medical treatment for children, families, and communities through its programs and sponsorships in the U.S., and Central and South America. This trip was the first time H.I.M has collaborated with an outside entity to provide hearing healthcare to the citizens of Guatemala. This collaboration was facilitated by the students at NOAC, who are all OAA members, in an effort to help those who would otherwise not be afforded access to hearing healthcare. In addition, the group collected donations for H.IM. and provided much needed supplies, including clothing, diapers, wipes, educational toys and basic hygiene supplies. During their four days of clinic, the group was able to provide services to almost 200 people!
